Spicy Beef Noodle Soup- okay, it's not that spicy. This delicious broth is the results of cooking beef bones for many hours to develop the true flavors of an authentic Bun Bo Hue. Pig knuckle is also thrown in the mix as well. The broth has the great blend of unique spices, lemongrass and for true authenticy- shrimp paste (this is a bit too authentic for me though). This place specializes in this stuff so it is amazing! It always comes out hot. The regular size bown is $5.10 and comes with the pig blood and slices of beef. For the Deluxe (Xe Lua) larger bowl, it's $5.60 but you get slices of Vietnamese Ham (Cha). The broth is so good though!
Every once in a while I get a craving for Bun Bo Hue just because Pho gets boring after you've had it 4 times in a row, ya know? Anyways this place came highly recommended and I was blown away. It's a little hole-in-the-wall type restaurant, the decor is nonexistent, but man, the Bun Bo Hue is out of this world! So authentic, spicy, and flavorful without being too salty or pungent. If you want even more heat like I do, add the "ot sate" (vietnamese chili oil) in the condiment tray. I worked up a good sweat and used half the napkins just to finish the bowl, that's when you know it's good! What's up the those napkins anyway?? The slightest moisture makes those things shrivel up and disappear. I took my adventurous gringo friend and it was $15 for the both of us including tip. No frills restaurant serving amazing Bun Bo Hue at a cheap price... Just do yourself a favor and go already.
Oh man, this is sooo good on a COLD day. The soup comes out piping HOT! And the flavor is unlike anything I've had. It's spicy too which I LOVE! If you are not adventurous I would not get the pork blood with it, but I think that's the whole point of eating an authentic dish...you gotta go for the whole package!!! i have recommended many people to this place, and they all LOVED IT!!Must try for sure if you love spicy noodle soup!!!
This is one of the best authentic Vietnamese dish in San Diego! The soup broth is flavorful but not too thick, but its almost clear. I love the spiciness! It might be too spicy for some, so be prepared! I think this is more of an engaging type of noodles since it comes with a big piece of pork legs with the fat around it! Trust me, if you like pho, you will love this! Top the soup with lime and vegetables that comes in a separate dish. And if you want to be really adventurous, order "pork blood" that they put in the soup!
